Entry Requirements

  • ✓South African citizen, age 18-35
  • ✓Grade 12 / NSC with Mathematics and Physical Science 50%+ (technical streams)
  • ✓Grade 12 for operations / port terminal streams
  • ✓No criminal record
  • ✓Medically fit (Transnet specific medical - includes rail safety roles)
  • ✓Willing to relocate to a Transnet operating area (Durban, Saldanha, PE, Richards Bay)

Programme Structure

Induction

Weeks 1-4

Transnet onboarding, safety induction (rail/port safety is mandatory) and introduction to the operating division.

Theoretical training

Months 2-10

Classroom modules at the Transnet School of Rail (Esselen Park, Kempton Park), Transnet Marine School or the Port Terminals Academy.

Workplace experiential learning

Practical rotations at depots, ports, locomotive workshops or pipeline terminals - under qualified Transnet professionals.
