SA Youth troubleshooting
SA Youth not working? Fix it in 5 minutes
The most common problems on sayouth.mobi — wrong password, no OTP, site won't load, application stuck — and exactly what to do about each one.
Quick answer
Most SA Youth problems are one of four things: an old cell number on file (use email reset), no data balance to negotiate the zero-rated connection (load R5 of airtime), browser cache (clear cache or use Incognito), or an incomplete profile (complete every field to 100%). If those don't fix it, call 0800 72 72 72 — free, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 16:30.
Forgot your SA Youth password
This is the most common problem, especially when a new intake (like the Teacher Assistant programme) opens and people who haven't logged in for months try to sign back in.
- Go to sayouth.mobi/Home/Login.
- Tap "I forgot my username / password" below the login form.
- Choose one of three reset methods: SMS, email, or security question.
- For the SMS route, enter your registered cell number. SA Youth sends a unique reset link (not a temporary password) — tap the link in the SMS and set a new password.
- Your new password needs at least 8 characters and one number.
OTP / SMS reset link not arriving
If you're stuck waiting for an SMS that won't come, work through this list:
- Wait 2–3 minutes — SMS gateways on MTN and Cell C lag, especially evenings.
- Check your signal — move outside or to a window if indoors.
- Check the registered number is still active — if you've changed SIMs since registering, the OTP is being sent to a number you no longer have.
- Switch to the email reset route — it bypasses SMS entirely.
- If both your registered cell and email are dead, call 0800 72 72 72 with your ID number ready.
Site won't load
sayouth.mobi is zero-rated on Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom and Virgin Mobile, so it should always load. When it doesn't, it's almost always one of these:
- SIM has zero data balance. Even on zero-rated networks, your SIM needs a tiny data balance (R2–R5) to negotiate the connection. Load airtime and convert it to data, then retry.
- Wrong URL. The data-free URL is
sayouth.datafree.co(with the dot) — notsayouthdatafree.co. - Network not supported. Zero-rating doesn't work on Rain, on most MVNOs, while roaming, or on Wi-Fi from a metered router.
- Browser cache. In Chrome: 3 dots → Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data → Cached images and files.
- Browser too old. SA Youth needs Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera or Safari from the last 2 years. The stock Samsung Internet browser on older phones often fails.
I've changed my phone number
If the cell number on your SA Youth profile is no longer in use, you can't reset by SMS. There's no way to fix this from inside your account.
Two options:
- Try the email reset if your registered email is still active.
- Call support on 0800 72 72 72 (free) or WhatsApp 060 011 0110. Have your full name, ID number, old cell number, and new cell number ready. Support will verify and update manually — typically within a few working days.
Account locked after too many attempts
If you've tried logging in with the wrong password several times, SA Youth temporarily locks the account.
- Wait about 30 minutes — the lock lifts automatically.
- Don't keep guessing — use Forgot Password to set a new one.
- If you're still locked after 24 hours, call 0800 72 72 72.
Application status not updating
If your status has been stuck on "Applied" for weeks, that's normal — employers update at their own pace, sometimes weekly, sometimes only when shortlisting closes.
To check status: log in → Dashboard / My Journey → My Applications.
If a posting is more than 4 weeks past its closing date with no update, assume unsuccessful and keep applying. SA Youth does not auto-reject — silent rejection is common in SA government recruitment.
Can't see any opportunities on your dashboard
Empty dashboards almost always come down to one of these:
- Profile under 80% complete. The matching engine deprioritises incomplete profiles. Fill every section, add languages, education, work history, and a profile photo.
- Location filter too narrow. If you've set the filter to a single suburb, broaden it to at least district or province.
- No matches in your area today. Check daily — listings rotate fast.
- Age cut-off. If you've recently turned 35, some opportunities will disappear from your view.
Where is the SA Youth app?
There is no official SA Youth app. sayouth.mobi is a mobile website — there is no Android or iOS app published by Harambee. Any "SA Youth" app you see on Google Play, the App Store, or third-party APK sites is unofficial.
Some unofficial APKs harvest ID numbers and passwords. Don't install them.
To get an app-like icon: open sayouth.mobi in Chrome → tap the 3 dots → Add to Home Screen. The shortcut behaves like an app icon on your home screen.
Avoid these common SA Youth scams
