Who can apply

  • Grade 9 minimum for NCV Level 2
  • Matric for most NATED N4+ business programmes
  • Grade 9–10 for NATED N1 engineering theory

Step by step

  1. Open the Coltech portal

    Go to majuba.coltech.co.za and click Register a New Account.
  2. Create your profile

    Use your SA ID/passport number, full name, working email and cell number. Save your username and password — you'll need them to log back in or track your application.
  3. Complete the Majuba Learner Profiler

    This includes a Career Guidance Assessment and a Pre-Entry Placement Test. Answer every question yourself — don't let someone else complete it. Click Finish at the end of each assessment.
  4. Select campus and programme

    Pick your preferred campus and programme(s). Confirm the programme is offered at that campus before applying.
  5. Upload required documents

    Coltech accepts PDFs and JPEGs under a size limit. Oversized scans are a common cause of upload failure — compress before uploading.
  6. Submit and track

    Submit and record your reference number. Track application status by logging back in every 7–14 days.
  7. Apply for NSFAS separately

    Apply at my.nsfas.org.za (August–November window for the following year). List Majuba TVET College and your chosen campus. Bring your NSFAS reference number to Majuba's bursary office at registration.

NTC is the hub for artisan training and apprenticeships. MTC houses Civil and Chemical Engineering including water and wastewater treatment training.

Programmes offered

NCV (Levels 2–4): Engineering & Related Design, Electrical Infrastructure Construction, Civil Engineering & Building Construction, Office Administration, Information Technology & Computer Science, Hospitality, Tourism, Primary Agriculture, Marketing, Finance/Economics & Accounting, Safety in Society, Education & Development, Mechatronics. (Specialist programmes like Mechatronics and Safety in Society may not be on every campus roster — verify.)

NATED Report 191 (N1–N6): Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Business Management, Financial Management, HR Management, Management Assistant, Marketing Management, Farming Management, Hospitality & Catering, Public Management, Educare.

Artisan / Trade Test programmes: Boilermaker, Electro-Mechanician (Millwright), Electrician, Instrument Mechanician, Fitter, Fitter & Turner, Welder, Rigger, Plumber. Delivered via apprenticeships through NTC.

Occupational Qualifications (QCTO-aligned) and Short Skills Programmes also offered.

Fees (2026 indicative)

  • Registration fee: approximately R250–R600 (non-refundable)
  • NCV tuition: roughly R5,000–R8,000 per level per year (varies by programme)
  • NATED tuition: roughly R1,500–R3,000 per subject per trimester/semester; total annual cost typically R7,000–R15,000
  • Engineering / artisan programmes sit at the higher end due to workshop materials
  • Additional costs: prescribed textbooks/PPE R500–R3,000

Exact 2026 figures are issued with the admission letter. NSFAS-funded students pay zero tuition.

NSFAS at Majuba

Majuba is on the NSFAS "white list" of funded TVET colleges. NSFAS covers tuition, prescribed learning materials, transport, personal-care allowance and accommodation for qualifying students.

Eligibility: SA citizen; combined household income under R350,000/year; SASSA grant recipients qualify automatically.

How to apply: Apply directly at nsfas.org.za (August–November window). After applying, list Majuba and your chosen campus. Bring your NSFAS reference number to Majuba's bursary office at registration.

Accommodation allowance bands: urban R24,000/year, peri-urban R18,900/year, rural R15,750/year.

Coltech student portal login

How to log in: Enter your ID/passport number as the username, then your case-sensitive password, then click Login. The portal lets you view exam results, register for subjects/semesters, check timetables, view fee statements and submit assignments.

Login credentials are emailed once an applicant is accepted. First-time users must change the default password.

Trade test pathway

The Newcastle Training Centre is Majuba's artisan hub. Pathway:

  1. Complete N2/N3 theory (or relevant NCV) in your trade (e.g. Fitting, Electrical, Boilermaking)
  2. Enter an apprenticeship or learnership combining theory and workplace experience
  3. Complete the practical workplace logbook verified by an accredited supervisor
  4. Sit the Trade Test administered through QCTO/DHET
  5. Receive a nationally recognised Red Seal trade certificate

Trades commonly tested at Majuba: Fitter, Fitter & Turner, Electrician, Millwright, Boilermaker, Welder, Rigger, Instrument Mechanician.

Residence / accommodation

On-campus residence is limited, primarily at MTC (Madadeni) and Newcastle sites. The majority of students secure NSFAS-accredited private accommodation in Newcastle, Madadeni or Dundee, typically R1,500–R4,000 per month.

Student Support Services at each campus maintains a vetted landlord list.

Common Coltech issues

  • Coltech login failures — usually case-sensitivity in the password, or applicant not yet activated (must wait for acceptance email)
  • Forgotten password — use the password reset on the portal; if no email arrives, contact Central Office (034 326 4888)
  • Registration-fee receipts not reflecting — keep proof of payment, email it to the campus finance office
  • NSFAS delays — funded students sometimes wait 4–8 weeks for allowances; you must still register on time
  • Document upload errors — Coltech has a file size limit; compress oversized scans before uploading
