Entry Requirements

  • South African citizen, age 18–29 (YES) or 18–35 (W&RSETA)
  • Grade 11 or 12 / NSC
  • Currently unemployed and not studying full-time
  • No prior full-time work experience (YES requirement)
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
  • Strong customer service attitude

Programme Structure

Induction

Weeks 1–2

Shoprite values, customer service standards, safety and stock-control basics.

📍 Allocated store + e-learning

In-store experiential learning

Months 1–10

Rotations across till-points, fresh, ambient and stock-receiving under a store mentor.

📍 Shoprite / Checkers / Usave store

Assessment and certification

Months 11–12

W&RSETA-aligned summative assessment, portfolio of evidence and NQF Level 4 certification.

Many learnership intakes are filled at store level. Take printed CVs and certified documents to your local Shoprite, Checkers or Usave HR office.

Pre-employment assessment

Shortlisted candidates complete a basic numeracy, literacy and personality assessment.

Within 1–2 weeks of applying

Store-level interview

Interview with the Store Manager and the regional HR business partner.

Verification and onboarding

Document verification (ID, matric, banking), signed learnership agreement and induction.

Start your learnership

Begin a 12-month learnership at the allocated store, with monthly check-ins and structured assessments.
