No public TVET college has published official 2027 dates yet (checked July 2026) - but the pattern is consistent every year: most colleges open applications between August and October. Here is exactly when to be ready, college by college.

Based on the 2026 cycle, expect most colleges to open 2027 applications between August and October 2026 - for example, South West Gauteng College ran 1 September to 31 October, Capricorn ran 1 to 30 September, and Northlink opened 15 August. Apply directly on your college's own portal; there is no single central portal, and public colleges charge no application fee.
The honest answer: 2027 dates are not out yet
Any site giving you exact '2027 TVET application dates' right now is guessing - every '2027 window' circulating online traces back to unofficial aggregators, not colleges. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) had not yet posted a 2027 academic calendar as of July 2026, and college websites still show their 2026 windows.
What we can tell you with confidence is the pattern, because it repeats every year - and it means you should be ready from August 2026.
What the 2026 cycle looked like (your best guide to 2027)
Verified opening and closing dates from the 2026 intake, straight from the colleges:
- Northlink College (Western Cape): opened 15 August 2025; original close 30 September, extended campus-by-campus to 30 October 2025.
- South West Gauteng College: NCV, Engineering Trimester 1 and Business Semester 1 applications ran 1 September to 31 October 2025; selection November to early January; registration 6-9 January; classes from 12 January 2026.
- Capricorn TVET College (Limpopo): opened 1 September, closed 30 September 2025 - applications at capricorn.coltech.co.za, no application fee.
- False Bay College (Western Cape): 2026 study applications closed 31 October 2025.
- Tshwane North College: Engineering Trimester 2 applications ran 2-31 March 2026 (mid-year intakes exist too - see below).
- Motheo TVET College (Free State): 2026 Semester 2 applications ran 18-29 May 2026 - a good example of how short mid-year windows can be.
The takeaway: September-October 2026 is the core window to apply for 2027 Trimester 1 and Semester 1 studies, with some colleges opening as early as mid-August.
NCV vs NATED (Report 191): different intakes
Your programme type determines how many chances you get per year:
- NCV (National Certificate Vocational): one intake per year, starting January. Registration is typically January only. Entry: Grade 9 or higher.
- NATED / Report 191 Engineering (N1-N6): trimester system - intakes in January, May and September. In 2026 the DHET calendar set trimester class starts at 12 January, 18 May and 14 September.
- NATED / Report 191 Business (N4-N6): semester system - intakes in January and July (2026: classes from 12 January and 15 July).
Entry for N4 courses (per Coastal KZN's published requirements): N3 or Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science or Technical Drawing at a minimum 40% pass. Note that N4-N6 NATED qualifications are being progressively phased out and replaced by QCTO occupational qualifications - Buffalo City College states this explicitly - so check what your college offers for 2027.
How to apply (there is no central portal)
Each college runs its own application system - there is no single national TVET application portal. The most common platforms:
- Coltech portals (e.g. capricorn.coltech.co.za) - used by several colleges
- iEnabler portals (e.g. ienabler.cjc.edu.za, ienabler.tnc.edu.za, ienabler.bccollege.co.za)
- Academia portals (e.g. falsebay.academiaerp.com)
- Learner Profiler / GoStudy - some colleges (Ekurhuleni West, Waterberg, Elangeni) require a placement questionnaire or profiler before the application itself
Typical documents: certified ID copy, latest results or certificate, and proof of residence; add proof of income and parent/guardian IDs if applying for financial aid. Public TVET colleges do not charge application fees.
NSFAS timing for 2027 TVET studies
NSFAS funds NCV and Report 191 students at all 50 public TVET colleges - SA citizens with combined gross family income up to R350,000 per year.
The 2026 NSFAS cycle opened 17 September 2025 and closed at midnight on 15 November 2025, with no late applications accepted. Expect a similar September-November 2026 window for 2027 funding - which means your college application and your NSFAS application will run at the same time. Do both.
For mid-year intakes, NSFAS runs per-intake windows: Trimester 2 around May, Trimester 3 around September, Semester 2 around June-July, with walk-in assistance at colleges.
Missed the main window? Your fallback options
If you miss the September-October 2026 applications for 2027:
- Engineering (Report 191): apply for Trimester 2 (classes ~May 2027) or Trimester 3 (~September 2027) - windows typically open two to three months before classes.
- Business (Report 191): apply for Semester 2 (classes ~July 2027) - Motheo's 2026 example window ran just two weeks in May.
