Who uses UKZN portals

  • Current UKZN undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Applicants who have been issued a UKZN student number (9 digits) via CAO
  • Postgraduate applicants apply directly via applications.ukzn.ac.za (not CAO)
  • Staff (different staff portal)

What you'll need to log in

  • UKZN student number (9 digits, e.g. 998765432)
  • Student Central PIN (initial PIN typically DDMM format)
  • For UKZN Learn: LAN username (email prefix, not student number)
  • LAN password (Wi-Fi / lab PC login)
  • For PIN reset: registered cellphone number

Step by step

  1. Log into Student Central

Go to sc.ukzn.ac.za. Enter your 9-digit UKZN student number and your PIN/password. Click Login.
  2. First-time PIN

Click Request a PIN on the Student Central login page. PIN is SMSed and emailed to your registered contact details. Commonly reported initial PIN format: DDMM (birth day + birth month). Must be changed on first login — new PIN cannot have repeating digits (e.g. 11223, 00220 rejected).
  3. Log into UKZN Learn (Moodle)

Go to learn2026.ukzn.ac.za — the URL is updated each calendar year. Use your LAN username (the email prefix, not the student number) and LAN password (same as Wi-Fi/lab PC login).
  4. For undergraduate applications: use CAO

UKZN does not accept direct undergraduate applications. All undergrad applications for UKZN, DUT, MUT and Unizulu go through the Central Applications Office (CAO) at cao.ac.za — a shared admissions body for KZN public universities.
Tip: Postgraduate, occasional and international applications go directly via applications.ukzn.ac.za.
  5. On CAO: register and choose up to 6 programmes

Register an account at cao.ac.za (ID/passport, email, cell). Choose up to 6 programmes across UKZN, DUT, MUT and Unizulu. Upload certified ID + latest academic results. Pay the once-off CAO fee (R250 SA / R300 international on-time; R470 SA / R580 international late).
  6. Install MyUKZN app for mobile

MyUKZN is on iOS (App Store id 1171018080) and Android. Features: fee statements, class & exam timetables, exam venues, graduation info, lab availability, bus schedules, password reset.

  • Browser cache — clear cache or try Incognito; Student Central is sensitive to stale sessions
