Who can apply

  • South African citizens, permanent residents and international applicants
  • NSC or IEB equivalent with the endorsement your programme requires
  • CUT uses Admission Points (AP) with a stated minimum of 27
  • Each programme sets its own AP and subject requirements above that floor
  • Some programmes close earlier than 30 September once application volumes are reached
  • Research Masters and Doctorate applications run to a separate 30 March 2027 deadline

What you'll need

  • Certified copy of your SA ID (or passport for international applicants)
  • Certified copy of your latest Grade 11 or Grade 12 results
  • Certified copy of your matric certificate if you have already completed school
  • Proof of payment of the application fee where one applies
  • Sworn translation of any document not in English
  • Supporting documents for specific programmes (portfolio, medical report) where required

Step by step

  1. Apply free online

CUT states plainly: "Application to the CUT is free." Apply via cut.ac.za/admission-online.
  2. Check your AP against the minimum of 27

CUT publishes a minimum Admission Points (AP) score of 27. Individual programmes set higher requirements above that floor.
  3. Do not leave it late - there is no safety net

CUT has the strictest published policy of any university in this cycle: "There are no late applications or walk-in applications." Missing 30 September means missing the year.
Tip: CUT also warns that some programmes may close earlier once application volumes are reached, so the real deadline for a popular programme can be well before September.
  4. Track your application status

CUT provides a status checker at urkey.cut.ac.za/checkappstatus.
  5. Use Ask CUT for queries

CUT routes enquiries through its Ask CUT support portal at askcut.cut.ac.za rather than a general student email address.

The strictest late-application policy in the country

Most universities discourage late applications. CUT rules them out entirely, in unusually plain language: "There are no late applications or walk-in applications."

Combined with the warning that programmes may close early once capacity is reached, this makes CUT a university where applying early genuinely matters more than elsewhere.

  • Undergraduate, Advanced Diplomas, Postgraduate Diplomas, Honours, structured Masters: 30 September 2026
  • Research Masters and Doctorate: 30 March 2027

Admission Points at CUT

CUT uses an Admission Points (AP) system with a published minimum of 27. As with every university, that is a floor for consideration rather than a guarantee - individual programmes set their own higher requirements.

CUT publishes its programme list at cut.ac.za/programmes-offered rather than as a single downloadable prospectus PDF.
