If an advert tells you to pay AgriSETA to "register" for a learnership, it is a scam - the learnership route runs through employers and providers. -
For learnerships: find an accredited AgriSETA provider or employer
Target commercial farms, agri-processors, co-operatives and agribusinesses in your area. Ask whether they run AgriSETA-funded learnerships and who their accredited training provider is. -
For bursaries and internships: apply on the AgriSETA site
Go to agriseta.co.za and look for the current funding windows. AgriSETA notes that applicants may apply directly on its website or through an accredited AgriSETA service provider. -
Register on Connect ME
AgriSETA runs Connect ME, described as a matchmaking platform connecting job-seekers and employers in the agricultural sector. If you want agricultural work, this is the single most useful thing on the AgriSETA site. -
Watch the graduate placement route

Why you usually cannot apply to AgriSETA for a learnership
AgriSETA is a funder, not an employer. It collects skills-development levies from agricultural businesses and redistributes them as grants to employers and accredited training providers. Those organisations recruit the learners.
AgriSETA's own guidance is that individuals generally apply through accredited training providers or employers. The exceptions - where AgriSETA does take direct applications on its website - are grants, internships and bursaries.
What this means practically:
- For a learnership, your application goes to a farm, agribusiness or training provider.
- For a bursary or internship, it can go to AgriSETA directly, during an open window.
- Either way, nobody legitimate ever charges you a cent.
Avoiding agricultural learnership scams
Farming learnerships attract a high volume of fake adverts, partly because the entry requirements are genuinely low and the audience is large. The reliable tells:
- Any request for payment - a registration fee, a training deposit, a "placement fee". Never legitimate.
- WhatsApp-only contact with no organisational email address or landline.
- Wrong domain. AgriSETA's official site is agriseta.co.za. Check any link carefully.
- Unrealistic stipends quoted for entry-level farm roles.
- Pressure to decide immediately or to send certified documents to a personal email address.
